Revenge was necessary (last of the trilogy of poems*)

Hot ashes take a long time to cool
or so they say.

Soot- coarse, muddy, black:
stays between the lines of your hands
long after you’ve washed them.

Terror- when mixed with love: leaves behind blood.
The kind that doesn’t dry
or flow away like water.

Revenge was necessary-

The blood had to remember its name again
The roughened hands had to learn to caress the smooth skin of a baby bird
The hot air had to wind down, and become my long hair’s playmate

Revenge was necessary-

Because there is nothing worse than the immortal memories of yesterday
Because almost everything, but not everything is beyond the reach of your screams
Because, you have to live to give-
not the other way round

The village after the storm is calm.
The air has lost its stubbornness; the orange horizon spreads its arms like a glowing mother.
Gardenia effortlessly steals the night away-
which the heart gathers,
fondly.

I rest my head and close my eyes to moon's lullabies.
